For referrers

We welcome referrals from GPs and non-GP specialists, and are happy to discuss questions relating to specific patients. Please contact our reception team to facilitate.

We welcome all patients

Central West Urology welcomes all patients, regardless of insurance status. We do not bulk bill patients in our clinic — if a uninsured patient requires surgery, they are charged our normal initial consultation fee at the clinic, and surgery is then arranged at the relevant public hospital.

How to refer

Referrals can be sent by email or fax, or securely through Argus or HealthLink. To aid efficiency and reduce clinic wait times, please see the suggested investigations below for each presenting problem.

For urgent referrals, please contact our reception team directly so we can appropriately triage the patient to be seen by one of our specialists.

Suggested investigations

To streamline triage and reduce wait times from referral to appointment, please consider the suggested investigations below when making a referral.

Elevated PSA
  • Repeat PSA within 1 to 3 months of the initial elevated reading
  • Urine microscopy and culture to exclude infection

*Men with a PSA measurement > 50 should be referred immediately.

Visible haematuria
  • Bloods: FBC, UEC
  • Urine microscopy and culture to exclude infection
  • Upper-tract imaging:
    • Ultrasound renal tract — reserved for patients with poor renal function
    • CT intravenous pyelogram (delayed phase)
Non-visible haematuria
  • Bloods: FBC, UEC
  • Urine microscopy and culture to exclude infection and quantify haematuria
Renal mass
  • Most commonly discovered incidentally on CT or ultrasound.
  • If discovered on ultrasound, a dedicated three-phase renal CT should be requested at the time of referral.
Recurrent urinary tract infections
  • All available urine microscopy and culture results
Male lower urinary tract symptoms
  • Recent PSA level
  • Urine microscopy and culture
  • Renal tract ultrasound
Kidney stones
  • Recent CT KUB (non-contrast) within the last 6 months
  • Urine microscopy and culture
Men’s health
  • Scrotal lumps: ultrasound of the scrotum
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Incontinence
